Hi there! My name is Tayli Abel and I have been working as the SUCCESS Case Manager at Capitol View since May 2017. The SUCCESS Program is here to partner with families and students who need support in the areas of attendance and behavior. I also assist with providing resources for basic needs, housing, parenting skills, and mental health supports. I am here year round so please feel free to contact me with any concerns or needs you may have. I’m looking forward to another great year here at Capitol View!
I earned my undergraduate degree in teaching from the University of Northern Iowa. Over the years, I have taught in both elementary and middle schools. For the past 15 years, I have been teaching 7th grade language arts at Callanan Middle School in Des Moines. I have a Master of Arts in teaching degree from Morningside College and, most recently, attended Drake University to work towards a Master of Science in School Counseling degree. I am excited to begin my counseling career as a Capitol View Tiger! Outside of school, my two daughters keep my husband and I very busy. We enjoy boating, sports, cheering for the Cubs, reading, and playing with our dog, Wrigley. I look forward to meeting you all! Please let me know if I can help you with anything!
I have been an RN for 41 years. Neonatal ICU nurse for 20 years and starting my 21st year as a school nurse with the last 12 years at Capitol View Elementary.
Hi! My name is Jana Galvin, and I am a Speech Language Pathologist at Capitol View. I am so glad to be returning to Capitol View this year! I received my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Iowa. After graduation I worked for three years with Green Hills Area Education Agency (AEA) in Council Bluffs. I worked at several elementary and high schools in the Council Bluffs area before coming to Capitol View. I truly love working in the school setting and enjoy getting to work on a variety of skills with my students. We target speech sound production, answering wh questions, retelling stories, using proper grammar, and much more! It is so fun watching my students improve their communication skills throughout the year!
Hi there! My name is Ashton Stafford, and I am a speech-language pathologist (SLP) who serves the students at Capitol View Elementary. I have been at Capitol View since the summer of 2011. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA and my Masters in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Northern Iowa. I use a combination of sign language and spoken English, depending on the student and their specific needs. I continue to build my own signing vocabulary and American Sign Language (ASL) skills, each and every day. A large part of my job is to provide as much visual support for the teachers and students as I can. My students work on a variety of skills during their speech sessions; sound production, articulation with visual phonics support, answering WH questions, story retell, proper grammar/syntax when writing and/or speaking, and social language. I love the challenges and rewards that my job provides, as well as being able to see my students grow as they move through preschool and elementary! Feel free to contact me with any questions. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
As the Capitol View Community School Coordinator it is my job to work as a bridge to connect the school and the community. I’ve worked in this role for the past 3 years. Some of my roles include assisting families with locating community resources, creating volunteer opportunities at the school, hosting fun family events, and helping to ensure the after school program is fun and enriching for our students. I am at the school year round, including summers, so feel free to reach out with any needs you may have. I’m excited to be a part of the Capitol View Family and I look forward to getting to know all of our families.
