Hi there! My name is Tayli Abel and I have been working as the SUCCESS Case Manager at Capitol View since May 2017. The SUCCESS Program is here to partner with families and students who need support in the areas of attendance and behavior. I also assist with providing resources for basic needs, housing, parenting skills, and mental health supports. I am here year round so please feel free to contact me with any concerns or needs you may have. I’m looking forward to another great year here at Capitol View!
This is my sixth year being a school nurse, my previous five years were spent at Cattell Elementary. Before school nursing, I worked with children at ChildServe continuing care and transitional care units. I am here to help you and your children with your physical, mental and emotional needs. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children. We love boating on the lake and cheering on the Cyclones. I am excited to be a CV tiger! Please let me know if you need help with anything.
Hello! My name is Gina Beals and I am the school counselor. This is my 2nd year at Capitol View and my 17th year in Des Moines Public Schools. Outside of school, my two daughters keep my husband and I very busy with softball and gymnastics. We enjoy boating, sports, cheering for the Cubs, reading, and playing with our dog, Wrigley. I am looking forward to another great year as a Capitol View Tiger!
My name is Amy Erwin and I am excited for my fourth year on the Capitol View team! I am in my 21st year of teaching and have experience in lower elementary as well as upper elementary special education. I am active in multiple leadership roles within our school as well as within the Des Moines district and love opportunities not only to grow as a professional, but to help other teachers do so!
I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education and a coaching endorsement. I completed my Master’s Degree in Special Education at Drake University.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. I also enjoy exercising, reading, and socializing with friends. My favorite part about being a teacher is watching students become independent thinkers and team players. I love to watch students grow!

I have been the Community School Coordinator at Capitol View since 2019. In my role, I work with our community to ensure families, students, and staff at Capitol View have what they need to be successful at school, home, and in the community. It is important to me that all Capitol View families and supporters feel welcomed, loved, and connected. My goals are to increase family engagement, expand student opportunities, support families’ health & well-being, and ensure student and family voices inform our school decisions. I live in Des Moines with my partner and our two dogs, Moose & Freddie. I enjoy spending time with loved ones, camping, and attending community events. Please reach out to me if you would like to partner with Capitol View or have any suggestions for growing our school community!
